Bob Hummel, former vice president of human resources at Citizens Energy Group, recently retired after 39 years of service. Bob began his career in the meter reading section and upon graduating from Indiana University in 1980, worked his way up through the human resources division, eventually becoming a member of the executive management team.
Hummel earned his MBA through the Falls School of Business at Anderson University in 1999, and is currently an MBA instructor at the Flagship Enterprise Center campus for the residential MBA cohort.
Returning to school for his graduate degree wasn’t about career advancement, but rather a continuation of learning about business fundamentals. Hummel affirmed, “As long as you’re putting yourself in a learning environment, you’re going to broaden the way you think about everything.” Bob believes that this mentality shapes the way you listen to others.
Hummel received the 2012 Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Anderson University MBA program. He was also one of four finalists nominated for the Human Resources Professional Award of Excellence from the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and Ogletree Deakins/HR Dimensions.
Bob will be a guest writer for our blog on leadership in future posts, so make sure you check back in!
