— Meet Chris Bourgea, an entrepreneur and tea connoisseur. Chris is a 2011 graduate of Anderson University (AU) with a degree in Entrepreneurship. As an undergrad, he earned second place in the Taylor University Business Plan competition and was the top undergraduate at the competition. And his list of accomplishments does not stop there. Bourgea received first place in the I-69 innovation challenge, as well as the Falls School of Business entrepreneurship graduate award in 2011. What is more important though, Bourgea was the first student in the history of AU to graduate with an entrepreneurship degree.
On top of his numerous accomplishments, Chris started his own company, BourgeaTEA, out of a desire to educate people about the different varieties and heath benefits of tea. Although he has since parted ways with his start-up, it is not something he regrets. After selling BourgeaTEA and graduating in 2011, he worked for Adagio Teas, where he helped open and managed the downtown Chicago location, which become ranked as a top five tea shop in Chicago. He also assisted in operations for three store locations in the Chicago area. Bourgea is a big proponent of small businesses and loves being innovative with his ideas. One of Chris’ proudest accomplishments at Adagio Teas, was creating a line of tea scented soap.
“Any company I work for, when I get behind the product, I become passionate and I get really into it.”
Bourgea’s desire for continuous learning is what drove him towards earning his MBA, and in a last minute opportunity, he became the 21st student of this year’s Residential MBA (RMBA) program. The concept of the residential program is what he enjoys the most. Having the Flagship Education Center as both classroom and living space creates a unique community. One component of the RMBA program is the completion of a yearlong co-op at a company in the surrounding area. The flexibility to find a co-op of your choice really caters to Bourgea’s personality. He is currently working for Soveryn, a small tech start-up that specializes in the development of ecommerce websites. Bourgea’s primary function is to generate sales, but his role isn’t limited to this area. Just like his passion for tea, Chris has become invested in learning about the ecommerce industry and diligently working to help grow Soveryn’s success.
